Working from Home - Tips _ Tricks

I’ve had the privilege of working from my home office for the past 12 years. It takes a little adjusting at first, but once you’re comfortable with it, you become extremely productive and fly right through each day. Here are some tips and tricks that have worked for me over the years:

Have a separate office space:

When you’re in a designated office space, you’ll be free from day-to-day distractions around the house (laundry, dishes, that pile of mail!).

Invest in a video doorbell:

This one was a game-changer! My cell phone gets a notification whenever someone is at the door. I can easily see if it’s something I need to run down for or if it’s just a package being dropped at the door. It takes about 5 seconds to check the app and be focused back on my work.

Create a standing desk in addition to your sitting desk:

I started using a higher countertop and a balance board to stand/balance as I work. The balance board is an easy way to keep your body moving and energized throughout the day. Don’t have a balance board? Just stand! The change in routine has a positive impact on keeping focused.

Video conference with your team:

Our team here at Goodwin Recruiting uses video conferencing each and every day. We meet with each other on video, as well as with our clients and candidates. It helps to build stronger connections with each other instead of just using the phone.

Make your office space feel comfortable for you:

Hang pictures that make you smile. Use fun lamps/lighting. Find a comfy chair. You spend a large part of your day in your office — make it a space you enjoy!
