Special Education Teacher – High School

Requirements & Qualifications

• Certified by the Department of Education as a Special Education Teacher
• Willingness to pursue emergency certification as needed
• Strong ability to develop and implement IEP goals and objectives
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for working with parents, staff, and students

Must Haves

• Assess student functioning through observations, testing, and collaboration with colleagues
• Develop weekly individualized lesson plans aligned with IEP goals
• Train and supervise teacher assistants in both academic and physical classroom tasks
• Integrate therapies (PT, OT, speech, nutrition, behavior plans) into the classroom to support student growth
• Provide inclusive settings such as community-based vocational programming and collaborative opportunities with peers without disabilities
• Maintain daily communication with parents and caregivers about student progress

Preferred Background & Skills

• Experience developing community-based learning opportunities
• Familiarity with alternate assessments and state standards
• Ability to foster meaningful family engagement through home/school connections
• Strong organizational skills to manage reporting, progress notes, and evaluations
• Collaborative mindset with a passion for creating inclusive, student-focused learning environments
