I used to think the idea of manifesting goals and dreams was a feel-good concept from self-help books, something to inspire hope but not taken too seriously. Now, I believe differently. My role as a senior talent recruiting partner at Goodwin Recruiting is more fulfilling than I ever imagined, and I truly believe it’s a manifestation from deep within me of the professional life I always wanted.  

In my work with candidates and their job searches, I often see my past self in others who are navigating different junctures in their careers. Just as mine did, their desires for a new job range from wanting flexible work schedules to midlife career changes, remote work opportunities, and most of all, career fulfillment.  Many candidates brilliantly succeed in pursuing their ideals, while others struggle to find their true north.

A story that needs to be shared  

Before becoming a talent recruiting partner, my career was anything but straightforward. I experienced the highs of successfully climbing the traditional corporate ladder and the lows of suddenly being laid off, forcing me to redefine my life and career. There were countless starts and stops in various positions, with periods of unemployment and the inherent bouts of despair in between.

Then one day I flipped the script. At 53, while working in a Macy’s fine jewelry department during the holiday season, I made a clear decision about my career. I was going to become a talent recruiter – a human link, an advocate between job-seeking professionals and employers who need their skills and experience.

To me, this career had meaning, purpose, core values that are important to me, and the quality of life I often thought about and craved but never directly pursued until now.  

The plan was simple  

I would find a recruiting firm willing to hire me, learn from them about the industry, and eventually go out on my own. That’s what I did, and after two years in talent recruiting, I had finally found my professional stride.

Little did I know that the pandemic would instantly take that job away, leaving me without a Plan B. Or so I thought. Giving up was not an option, and in July 2020, at the height of the pandemic, I found Goodwin Recruiting and I haven’t looked back.  

The rewards are exceptional 

My life and work at Goodwin Recruiting have exceeded even my wildest dreams. This job gives me:   

• Constant gratification in helping professionals and employers find success in each other 
• Flexibility to create a work schedule that fits around my life
• Freedom to travel the world with my recently retired husband
• Opportunities to spend time at the Jersey Shore, renting a beach house a block away from my best friend since kindergarten
• Ability to support my children as they launch their journeys into adulthood   
• Time to care for my senior dog, who needs extra attention throughout the day, as well as my two-year-old puppy, who also wants attention throughout the day   

I enjoy all of this while doing meaningful work that positively impacts people’s lives and helps organizations grow with hand-picked talent for their teams. It’s a career in which everybody wins.
