Assistant Public Defender Qualifications:
- Licensed to practice law in New York State
- Experience in criminal defense or public interest law is preferred
- Strong communication, litigation, and advocacy skills
- Interest in working in a rural community and making a real impact
Assistant Public Defender Key Responsibilities:
- Represent clients in criminal court proceedings
- Prepare legal defenses, conduct case research, and argue motions
- Maintain case files and documentation in accordance with legal and ethical standards
- Collaborate with the Chief Public Defender and county agencies
