Assistant Public Defender Qualifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in New York State
  • Experience in criminal defense or public interest law is preferred
  • Strong communication, litigation, and advocacy skills

Assistant Public Defender Key Responsibilities:

  • Represent clients in criminal court proceedings
  • Prepare legal defenses, conduct case research, and argue motions
  • Maintain case files and documentation in accordance with legal and ethical standards
  • Collaborate with the Chief Public Defender and county agencies
