Controller – Law Firm

Are you ready to lead finance at a mission-driven firm where your work directly supports justice, impact, and growth? Our client—a highly respected personal injury law firm with over 30 years of experience serving individuals across the Carolinas—is seeking a Controller to join their leadership team.

In this pivotal role, you'll oversee all aspects of the firm’s financial operations, helping to strengthen systems, improve processes, and drive strategic decisions. You’ll work closely with the COO, CEO, and senior leaders as the organization continues to expand its reach and impact.

 

Controller – Law Firm – What You’ll Do

  • Lead day-to-day accounting functions, including payroll, AP/AR, general ledger maintenance, and financial reporting
  • Prepare and manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, budgets, and forecasts
  • Maintain and improve internal controls to ensure the firm’s financial stability
  • Deliver timely, accurate reporting and financial insights to support executive strategy
  • Oversee banking relationships and financing arrangements
  • Develop and refine cross-functional reporting tools for increased visibility and accountability
  • Identify and implement opportunities for cost savings, automation, and process efficiency
  • Provide financial analysis and strategic guidance to senior leadership
  • Mentor and manage accounting staff, fostering a culture of accuracy and growth

 Controller – Law Firm – Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive financial leadership experience (law firm or professional services preferred)
  • CPA preferred
  • Proven track record leading an accounting or finance department
  • Deep knowledge of GAAP and financial compliance standards
  • Proficiency with Excel and the MS Office Suite
  • Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communicator with a collaborative, solution-oriented mindset
  • High integrity, professionalism, and discretion
