We’re recruiting a Principal Communications Engineer (HYBRID role) to lead and innovate in communications systems, including SCADA, tele-protection, and telecom infrastructure. Principal Communications Engineer Responsibilities:
• Serve as the communications systems expert, ensuring compliance with industry standards
• Oversee the design, implementation, and operation of SCADA, automation, and telecom systems
• Maintain and update the company’s communications standards
• Work with contractors and consultants to align designs with project goals
• Mentor engineers and technologists, guiding their professional growth
• Research and integrate emerging communication technologies
• Collaborate across engineering disciplines for seamless system integration
• Drive cost-saving and efficiency improvements in communications infrastructure
• Represent the communications discipline in cross-departmental meetings and compliance matters
• Recommend projects for the company’s five-year work plan
• Provide project development support and cost estimates
Principal Communications Engineer Requirements:
• Bachelor's (Master’s preferred) in Engineering (Electrical, Control Systems, Power Systems)
• 10+ years (with Master’s) or 15+ years (with Bachelor’s) in communications engineering
• PE in Indiana & Illinois preferred
• Strong communication & leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, and customer-focused
• Expertise in telecom, SCADA, and automation systems
• Experience with fiber optics, microwave radio, land mobile radio, RTUs
• Familiarity with cybersecurity & advanced networking solutions
