We are seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our clinical day-school team and make a meaningful impact in the lives of students with significant emotional and behavioral needs. This position will teach 4th and 5th grade students in our Cranston Partnership classroom, providing individualized instruction and support in a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary setting.

Special Education Teacher Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Teaching, Education, or a related field
  • Rhode Island K–12 Teaching Certificate required
  • Certification in Special Education preferred
  • Experience working with children who have behavioral or emotional disabilities
  • Valid driver’s license and automobile insurance meeting Rhode Island minimum standards, or ability to obtain reliable transportation

Must Haves:

  • Develop and deliver content-specific lesson plans aligned with curriculum, grade-level expectations, and Department of Education standards
  • Teach assigned academic courses with clear objectives and measurable outcomes
  • Write and monitor Individual Education Programs (IEPs), including academic goals and short-term objectives, in compliance with regulations
  • Conduct educational assessments as needed and report progress quarterly
  • Implement behavioral management strategies and support students according to established behavior plans
  • Assist in the physical management of students when necessary and complete required documentation
  • Actively engage students using appropriate reinforcement techniques and maintain a daily participation record
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, daily debriefs, and weekly staff meetings

Special Education Teacher Preferred Background & Skills:

  • Experience in a clinical day-school or therapeutic educational setting
  • Strong understanding of behavioral support strategies and crisis intervention
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and respectful learning environment aligned with diversity, equity, and inclusion principles
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and classroom management skills
