Structural Building Plans Examiner Requirements:

• Conducts detailed plan reviews for residential, commercial, and industrial projects to ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal codes and regulations.
• Facilitates pre-construction meetings with developers, contractors, and relevant stakeholders to clarify code requirements and project expectations.
• Provides technical guidance and support to field inspection staff, assisting with complex code interpretations and on-site challenges.
• Responds to and resolves concerns and complaints from clients, contractors, designers, applicants, and the public.
• Maintains regular communication and collaboration with municipal clients and their staff to support project goals and regulatory compliance.
• Performs on-site inspections as needed, offering real-time code interpretation and ensuring construction meets approved plans and standards.
• Participates in industry meetings, training sessions, and educational seminars to stay current with evolving building codes and best practices.

Structural Building Plans Examiner Skills:

• Deep understanding of local building codes, current construction practices, and emerging industry technologies.
• Strong ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
• Proven success in collaborating with internal teams, contractors, public agencies, and clients in a professional and positive manner.
• Skilled in managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Highly organized with strong time management skills and exceptional attention to detail.
• Capable of exercising independent judgment and taking initiative to resolve complex issues effectively.
• Proficient in preparing clear, concise plan review documentation and accurately entering information into company software systems.
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the latest editions of International Building Codes and related standards.
• Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and other relevant industry software tools.

Structural Building Plans Examiner Certification and Experience:

• FL Standard Inspector License in Building required 
• FL Standard Plans Examiner License in Building required
• FL Certified General Contractor License required
• 3-5 years combined experience in building department field inspection and plans examiner duties.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Acceptable driving record.
