We have an immediate opening for a Director of Safety Operations. Key responsibilities include developing and implementing and overseeing safety programs, policies and procedures to ensure a safe work environment. DIRECTOR OF SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervisory Responsibilities:

 ● Provide leadership, direction, and development for the safety team.

 ● Oversee safety program execution and ensure consistent application across all worksites.

 ● Monitor staff performance and provide coaching, training, and corrective action as needed.

 ● Ensure safety operations comply with OSHA, MSHA, DOT, and other federal/state regulations.

 ● Collaborate with project leadership to implement safe work practices and hazard controls.

 ● Guide staff through incident response, investigations, and corrective action planning.

 ● Maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism in all safety-related matters. 

Duties/ Responsibilities:

● Develop, implement, and continuously improve the company’s comprehensive safety program and safety management system.

● Conduct regular jobsite audits, inspections, and hazard assessments to identify risks and ensure compliance.

● Lead the investigation of incidents, near misses, and safety concerns; ensure thorough root cause analysis and follow-up.

● Maintain required safety documentation, reports, and regulatory submissions.

● Oversee safety training programs, including OSHA, equipment certification, orientation, and refresher courses.

● Coordinate emergency response plans, drills, and preparedness initiatives.

● Provide safety coaching and guidance to operations leaders, foremen, and field staff.

● Develop and report key safety metrics to executive leadership.

● Ensure compliance with OSHA, MSHA, DOT, EPA, and state/local safety regulations.

● Partner with HR and Operations on workers’ compensation claims, light duty assignments, and return-to-work programs.

● Support culture-building initiatives that promote accountability, communication, and continuous improvement.

● Manage vendor relationships with third-party safety auditors, trainers, and regulatory consultants.

● Benchmark safety practices against industry standards to ensure competitiveness and excellence.

● Other duties as assigned.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO HAVE?

● Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or related field required (or equivalent experience — confirm with HR)

● OSHA 30 required; OSHA 500/510 or CSP/CHST/ASP certifications preferred

● Valid Driver’s License

● Minimum 7–10 years of progressive experience in construction safety management.

● Experience leading multi-site safety programs in construction, industrial, or similar high-risk environments.

● Demonstrated experience developing safety strategies, conducting investigations, and managing regulatory compliance.

● Prior leadership or supervisory experience required. (referencing Director-level structures)

Required Skills/Abilities

● Strong knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, DOT, and environmental health and safety regulations.

● Excellent communication, training, and presentation skills.

● Ability to influence and lead teams across multiple locations.

● Strong analytical, problem-solving, and risk assessment capabilities.

● Ability to remain calm and professional in emergency or high-pressure environments.

● Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, safety management software, and reporting systems.

● Strong organizational and time management abilities.
