Chief Engineer Responsibilities
- Oversee all property maintenance, repair, and engineering operations for a large conference hotel facility.
- Manage and execute preventive maintenance programs for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
- Develop, monitor, and manage departmental budgets and capital projects.
- Supervise and train maintenance and engineering staff; schedule and evaluate performance.
- Coordinate with outside vendors and university facility teams for repairs and inspections.
- Ensure OSHA, fire/life safety, and building code compliance.
- Analyze utility consumption and implement energy-efficient solutions.
- Maintain daily communication with hotel departments to ensure smooth facility operations.
Chief Engineer Requirements & Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in hotel, resort, or conference center engineering management.
- Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Proven ability to manage budgets, capital projects, and vendor relationships.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Valid Driver’s License required.
- Flexibility for occasional weekend or evening work.
Chief Engineer Preferred Background & Skills
- Previous Chief Engineer or Assistant Director of Engineering experience in a full-service hotel.
- Experience working within conference, university, or institutional hospitality environments.
- Trade certifications such as HVAC, EPA, or building systems management a plus.
