Emergency Veterinary Assistant Technician Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience in emergency, ICU, or critical care veterinary settings, with a strong foundation in high-acuity patient support.
  • Proficient in emergency protocols, patient handling techniques, and familiar with basic veterinary medical terminology.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey information clearly and compassionately to both veterinary teams and pet owners.
  • Demonstrated empathy and care for canine and feline patients, providing calm, reassuring support to animals in distress.
  • Keen observational abilities and strong attention to detail, ensuring accurate monitoring and timely reporting of patient behavior and condition.
  • Skilled in time management and task prioritization, able to perform efficiently and stay focused in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.

Emergency Veterinary Assistant Technician Responsibilities:

  • Assist in delivering compassionate, efficient emergency care by supporting patient restraint, obtaining vital signs, and providing comfort measures to canine and feline patients.
  • Prepare and organize medical equipment, supplies, and medications required for emergency procedures and treatments.
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary, and well-stocked treatment area, including disinfecting surfaces, changing bedding, and replenishing supplies.
  • Support diagnostic efforts by assisting with radiographs, laboratory testing, and sample collection under veterinary supervision.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and IV fluids as directed by the veterinary team, ensuring accurate delivery and patient safety.
  • Document patient information, treatments, and clinical observations accurately and promptly in medical records.
  • Communicate empathetically with pet owners, providing updates, relaying messages, and addressing general inquiries as directed by the veterinary staff.
  • Collaborate across departments as needed, contributing to a cohesive and efficient hospital environment.
