Relocation to sunny Daytona Beach, Florida!
Director of Operations – Growth-Stage Manufacturing (Capital Equipment / Light Assembly)
Location: Two manufacturing facilities in close proximity (non-adjacent)
Industry: Capital Goods – Light Industrial Assembly (NO auto, aerospace, food, or CPG)
We’re seeking a hands-on Director of Operations to lead two high-growth manufacturing sites through a critical scale-up phase. This role is ideal for an operations leader who has successfully taken a low-volume startup manufacturing operation and scaled it to mid-volume production with strong operational infrastructure.
You'll be the driver of strategic improvements across cashflow, inventory, production, personnel, and planning – supported by a strong leadership team, but responsible for ownership and execution across all operational competencies.
Key Responsibilities:
Cashflow & Financial Oversight
- Manage outflows for materials, labor, and equipment in coordination with Accounting
- Monitor direct/indirect costs and special items (freight, tariffs)
- Generate monthly spend reports and quarterly projections (0–12 months forward)
Inventory & Demand Planning
- Manage total inventory: components, WIP, and finished goods
- Lead cycle counts, variance analysis, and inventory turns planning
- Establish demand plans and forecast production and purchasing at all timeframes
Production & Capacity Planning
- Map production demand vs. capacity; monitor build rates, lead times, queue/staging
- Optimize scheduling and resource allocation
- Establish and measure standard capacity metrics (units/hour, staging times)
Team & Culture Leadership
- Lead labor productivity improvements and HR issue resolution
- Drive onboarding, training, and ongoing development initiatives
- Foster a positive, ownership-driven culture at both sites
Continuous Improvement & Compliance
- Evaluate and upgrade SOPs, quality systems, and operational efficiency (LEAN/5S)
- Lead ISO pre-qualification and certification process from scratch
- Measure impact of process changes and scale accordingly
Must-Have Experience:
- Proven success scaling light industrial capital goods manufacturing from startup to mid-volume
- Demonstrated ownership of operations, budget, process creation, and cross-site leadership
- Experience in mechanical/electrical assembly environments (chemical exposure a plus)
- Background in managing full plant operations (not corporate-only experience)
- Strong leadership presence; energetic, team-focused, and hands-on
Preferred Background:
- Director-level or senior operations leadership role at a $25–$100M manufacturing company
- Site size of ~50–100 employees
- Familiarity with product types like pumps, filters, tanks, or related assemblies
- ISO process and implementation experience
- LEAN/5S champion mindset with track record of measurable improvements
