Structural Building Inspector Requirements:

• Conducts thorough reviews of construction documents for residential, commercial, and industrial projects to ensure adherence to local, state, and federal codes and regulations.
• Collaborates regularly with municipal clients and staff to address project requirements and maintain compliance standards.
• Leads preconstruction meetings with developers, contractors, and project teams to align expectations and clarify code requirements.
• Offers expert technical support to field inspection staff, helping resolve complex on-site construction challenges.
• Responds promptly to inquiries and concerns from property owners, applicants, contractors, designers, and the public.
• Performs field inspections as needed, providing on-the-spot code interpretations and ensuring proper implementation.
• Attends industry seminars, training sessions, and code-related events to stay current with evolving building standards.

Structural Building Inspector Skills

• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and other industry-relevant software, with the ability to efficiently manage digital workflows.
• Deep knowledge of current building codes, including continuous familiarity with updates to various editions of the International Building Codes.
• Solid understanding of contemporary construction practices, materials, and technologies.
• Skilled in managing multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to clearly convey technical information to a variety of audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, showing sound judgment and initiative in problem-solving and decision-making.
• Experienced in drafting professional correspondence for plan reviews and accurately maintaining records in company software systems.
• Collaborative team player who interacts effectively with contractors, clients, regulatory agencies, colleagues, and the public.
• Well-organized and adaptable, with a focus on providing high-quality service and maintaining strong professional relationships.

Structural Building Inspector Certification & Experience:

• Florida Inspector License required 
• 3-5 years combined experience in building department field inspection and plans examiner duties.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Acceptable driving record
