5th and 6th Grade General Studies Teacher

Akiba Yavneh Academy, a leading Modern Orthodox Jewish Day School, is seeking a passionate and dedicated 5th and 6th Grade General Studies Teacher to join our dynamic lower school team. This is an exciting opportunity to inspire and nurture young learners in a values-driven, academically rigorous environment that supports the whole child—intellectually, emotionally, and socially.

What You'll Do

  • Teach core subjects including Language Arts and Social Studies using student-centered, differentiated instruction.
  • Create a warm, inclusive, and respectful classroom culture that reflects AYA’s commitment to academic excellence and character development.
  • Design engaging lessons that integrate technology, executive functioning, and social-emotional learning (SEL) practices.
  • Monitor and assess student growth through formative and summative assessments, providing timely and individualized feedback.
  • Collaborate closely with fellow educators, learning specialists, and school leadership to support each student’s success.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with parents and guardians.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and contribute to the life of the school community.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Valid teaching certification or equivalent experience in elementary education.
  • Classroom experience in grades K–5 (experience in upper elementary preferred).
  • Familiarity with best practices in literacy instruction, inquiry-based learning, and differentiated teaching strategies.
  • Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Passion for fostering a love of learning, building relationships with students, and meeting diverse learning needs.
  • Understanding of Jewish values and traditions is a plus, but not required.
