Fleet Mechanic Requirements & Qualifications

Ability to diagnose, service, and repair commercial related equipment
Working knowledge of DOT / FMCSA inspection standards and safety requirements
Experience performing FHWA/BIT inspections and identifying safety-related defects
Must provide own tools in accordance with company requirements
Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain and maintain DOT certification
Ability to work independently while following established repair and safety standards
Strong attention to detail, safety, and quality workmanship
Brake systems (including brake inspections and adjustments)
Air systems (air lines, valves, chambers)
Electrical systems (lighting, wiring, troubleshooting)
Suspension systems
Landing gear repairs
Tires and wheel-end maintenance
Swing doors and roll-up doors
Floors and side panels
Preventive maintenance inspections
Minor welding and torch work

Fleet Mechanic Day-to-Day Responsibilities

Perform fleet-specific repairs, including completing FHWA inspections and brake system repairs
Inspect, maintain, and repair air lines, electrical/lighting systems, suspension components, doors, and flooring
Conduct routine welding and related mechanical work as needed
Document completed repairs and ensure all work adheres to safety regulations and quality standards
Maintain tools, workspace cleanliness, and responsible use of equipment
Communicate effectively with team members and vendors to support seamless yard operations
