Commercial HVAC Technician Requirements & Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in commercial HVAC service and repair
  • Proven ability to diagnose and troubleshoot HVAC controls, motors, compressors, and burners
  • Experience with commercial kitchen hot-side equipment such as fryers, ovens, and grills preferred
  • Strong knowledge of electrical, gas, and mechanical systems
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work in high-temperature kitchen environments
  • EPA Certification for refrigerant handling (preferred)
  • Comfortable climbing ladders and working in tight spaces

Commercial HVAC Technician Preferred Background & Skills

  • Experience working with restaurants or commercial foodservice organizations
  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs in commercial kitchens
  • Understanding of gas lines, combustion systems, and ventilation hood systems

Commercial HVAC Technician Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair commercial HVAC and hot-side kitchen equipment, such as rooftop units, ovens, fryers, and ventilation systems
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve heating, cooling, and refrigeration issues in commercial settings
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance to maximize equipment performance and minimize downtime
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals to ensure proper service
  • Maintain accurate service records, maintenance logs, and parts inventory
  • Communicate clearly with clients and management on repair recommendations and service needs
  • Respond to emergency service calls to restore essential kitchen and HVAC systems
