Jim Barrineau joined Goodwin Recruiting in February 2025, bringing with him over 25 years of experience in asset management—including roles at sell-side investment banks, large asset managers, and a hedge fund.
His career began off Wall Street, serving as a global political economist at the CIA. From there, he transitioned to the financial sector, working as a sell-side analyst across debt and equity markets before moving to the buyside as an analyst, portfolio manager, and global strategist.
At Schroders Asset Management, Jim built an investment team from the ground up—growing assets from $25 million to $6 billion in just eight years. That experience cemented his belief in the power of strategic hiring and team-building, especially in high-performance industries like finance. He brings that same insight and intentionality to his work in recruiting.
Jim approaches every search as a consultative partner, using his deep industry knowledge to align top-tier talent with the growth goals of his clients. He’s not afraid to present an unconventional—or “off the run”—candidate if he sees something essential in their potential to drive long-term success.
One of his proudest hires? A college student he met while playing barista at a friend’s café—who went on to become a senior portfolio manager. For Jim, great talent can come from anywhere—what matters most is fit, mindset, and capability.
