Outside Scrap Metal Buyer
The Outside Buyer is responsible for sourcing and purchasing ferrous and non-ferrous scrap within a defined territory. This field-based sales role involves visiting current and potential suppliers—such as dealers, contractors, manufacturers, and auto wreckers—to build relationships, negotiate pricing, and secure supply.
Key Responsibilities of Outside Scrap Metal Buyer
- Identify, develop, and maintain supplier relationships
- Negotiate pricing and contracts based on market conditions
- Evaluate scrap grades and material quality
- Collaborate with internal teams to meet volume and margin goals
- Stay informed on market trends, competitor activity, and transportation/logistics costs
Requirements for Outside Scrap Metal Buyer
- Experience in outside sales or account management
- Strong knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap grades
- Understanding of pricing, grading, and processing
- Ability to travel within assigned region
