Full processing scrapyard is seeking a Yard Manager for their key yard!

The Yard Manager will oversee daily scrap metal processing operations, ensuring efficiency, safety, and regulatory compliance. This role involves leading a team, managing material flow, and ensuring the safe operation of equipment, including shredders. The Yard Manager will also maintain quality standards for materials, promote sustainability, and optimize operations for maximum productivity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage Yard Operations: Oversee daily activities of the scrapyard, including resource allocation, scheduling, and material flow.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and mentor a team of 20-50 employees, ensuring high performance and safety standards.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate and maintain yard equipment, including shredders, crushers, loaders, and forklifts, ensuring proper function and safety.
  • Quality Control: Ensure that all incoming and outgoing scrap materials meet company and industry standards for quality.
  • Safety Compliance: Enforce OSHA safety regulations and maintain a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Material Processing: Oversee the sorting, processing, and shipping of both ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
  • Logistics Coordination: Coordinate material flow with the Transportation Department, ensuring efficient logistics and timely deliveries.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels and manage resources to ensure the efficient operation of the yard.
  • Customer and Vendor Relations: Build and maintain professional relationships with vendors, customers, and Department Managers to ensure smooth operations.
  • Reporting: Submit regular reports on yard activities, material processing, and safety compliance to senior management.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements, implementing strategies to increase efficiency and reduce waste.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a supervisory role within the recycling or scrap metal industry.
    • Strong leadership and team management skills.
    • Extensive experience with heavy equipment operation (shredders, loaders, forklifts).
    • Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and environmental regulations.
    • Certifications:OSHA 30-Hour Certification preferred.
    • Forklift Operator Certification required.
    • Heavy Equipment Operation Certification preferred.
    • DOT Regulations Training is a plus.
