We are seeking a highly motivated T&D Planning Engineer to play a key role in the development and optimization of our transmission and distribution (T&D) system. This position will be responsible for system analysis, capital project planning, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong electrical engineering background and a deep understanding of grid reliability, system modeling, and regulatory requirements.

T&D Planning Engineer Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze the distribution and transmission system to assess reliability, capacity, and future infrastructure needs.
  • Develop short- and long-term capital improvement plans based on system performance, risk assessment, and regulatory requirements.
  • Utilize CYME and GIS software to model system operations, integrate updates, and evaluate the impact of distributed energy resources.
  • Support regulatory compliance by preparing and submitting required reports to entities such as NERC, FERC, and ISO-NE.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Substation Engineering and System Operations, to enhance grid modernization efforts.
  • Provide technical expertise for Distributed Generation (DG) interconnection studies, working with developers and external consultants to ensure project feasibility.
  • Manage project scopes, budgets, and schedules, ensuring efficient execution of system upgrades and improvements.

T&D Planning Engineer Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • At least five years of experience in transmission and distribution engineering, preferably in a utility setting.
  • Proficiency with system modeling software (e.g., CYME) and familiarity with GIS applications.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, and system models.
  • Knowledge of NERC reliability standards and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Experience managing multiple projects, prioritizing tasks, and coordinating with stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities with a proactive approach to system planning.
