Superintendent – Public Works Requirements & Qualifications

  • Experience working as a superintendent for a contractor
  • 15+ years’ experience overseeing underground construction projects such as sewer, storm, water pipelines, and pump stations

Superintendent – Public Works Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Serve as the on-site representative, coordinating professionally with owners, engineers, inspectors, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies
  • Lead and coordinate daily construction activities to deliver quality work safely, on schedule, and within budget
  • Collaborate with project management, safety, purchasing, payroll, and other support teams to ensure effective project execution
  • Plan, assign, and oversee work activities to ensure proper preparation, sequencing, and use of resources for all project phases
  • Inspect work for compliance with drawings, specifications, and company standards, driving excellence in every detail
  • Enforce company safety policies and all OSHA/regulatory requirements; promote safe work practices and jobsite hazard awareness
  • Supervise and mentor Foremen and crews; participate in onboarding, training, performance management, and problem resolution
