Billing Specialist Requirements & Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years of law firm billing experience
  • High proficiency with Coyote (now Finance Core) legal billing platform
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Word, Adobe, and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated experience billing attorney time and managing billing cycles
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Superior attention to detail, organizational, and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to work with highly confidential information
  • Strong ability to independently prioritize workload and meet deadlines

Billing Specialist Preferred Background & Skills

  • Experience working directly with law firm partners and clients
  • Familiarity with e-billing portals and compliance management

Billing Specialist Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and edit prebills for attorney approval to ensure accuracy and client compliance
  • Finalize invoices and submit them via email or through e-billing systems, including Coyote/Finance Core
  • Upload invoices to client e-billing portals, resolving any rejections or compliance issues
  • Monitor unbilled time, aged receivables, and outstanding invoices; assist with collections as needed
  • Generate billing reports, accruals, and financial summaries
  • Maintain accurate billing records and assist with year-end reporting, audits, and system upgrades
  • Support the accounting department with special projects as required
