Chief of Staff Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in executive support, communications, external relations, strategic planning, public affairs, nonprofit leadership, or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience supporting a CEO, Executive Director, President, or other senior executives
  • Exceptional written communication skills with the ability to adapt tone and voice for diverse audiences
  • Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence with the ability to build trust across stakeholder groups
  • Proven ability to manage confidential information with discretion and professionalism
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills with sound decision-making abilities
  • Experience managing complex calendars, stakeholder communications, and executive workflows
  • Proficiency with CRM systems, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and modern communication platforms
  • Ability to work independently, navigate ambiguity, and drive projects forward with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of or interest in philanthropy, community development, economic mobility, and/or public policy
  • Existing relationships within civic, nonprofit, philanthropic, or community networks are a plus
  • Master's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience

Chief of Staff Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary strategic partner supporting the President & CEO's daily priorities, communications, and stakeholder engagement efforts
  • Manage and prioritize the CEO's calendar, ensuring time is aligned with organizational priorities, key relationships, and strategic opportunities
  • Serve as a trusted gatekeeper by evaluating requests for the CEO's attention and exercising sound judgment regarding priorities
  • Draft, edit, and coordinate correspondence, speeches, talking points, presentations, and other communications on behalf of the CEO
  • Prepare briefing materials, background research, and meeting summaries to support informed decision-making
  • Lead weekly planning and prioritization sessions with the CEO to align schedules and initiatives with organizational goals
  • Develop and maintain stakeholder engagement strategies across community, philanthropic, nonprofit, civic, business, and government sectors
  • Manage relationship tracking and follow-up activities through the organization's CRM system
  • Represent the CEO and organization at meetings, events, and community gatherings as appropriate
  • Support relationships with board members, funding partners, community leaders, and strategic collaborators
  • Coordinate responses to speaking invitations, media inquiries, partnership opportunities, and external engagement requests
  • Monitor emerging trends, opportunities, and challenges relevant to the organization's mission and strategic priorities
  • Lead special projects and initiatives from concept through execution while ensuring alignment with organizational goals
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure external relationship strategies support programmatic and organizational objectives
  • Serve as a trusted advisor who anticipates needs, solves problems proactively, and extends the effectiveness and impact of the CEO
