We are seeking a Patent Agent with at least 1+ year of patent prosecution experience to join a nationally recognized corporate practice in San Diego. The ideal candidate will have experience in patent drafting and prosecution within technologies such as software, hardware/devices, artificial intelligence, wireless systems, database technologies, or signal/image processing.

Patent Agent Responsibilities

  • Review invention disclosure documents and participate in invention disclosure meetings
  • Conduct prior art searches and analyze patentability of inventions
  • Draft and prosecute patent applications before the USPTO
  • Review office actions, develop response strategies, conduct examiner interviews, and prepare responses
  • Manage U.S. and international patent prosecution dockets
  • Perform patent analysis for due diligence and freedom-to-operate assessments

Patent Agent Requirements

  • At least 1+ year of patent prosecution experience
  • USPTO registration required
  • Technical background in computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or related field
  • Experience with one or more relevant technologies (software, AI, hardware/devices, wireless, database systems, signal/image processing)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • High attention to detail with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Prior law firm experience preferred
