Lead Field Engineer – Santa Clara County, CA

An established construction contractor renowned for delivering high-quality, large-scale infrastructure projects is seeking a Lead Field Engineer for a major water treatment plant assignment in Santa Clara County. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role on a high-impact, multi-year project, working with collaborative internal teams and dedicated industry professionals.

Lead Field Engineer Requirements & Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of construction experience, including 5+ years on water treatment plant projects
  • Prior experience as a field project engineer for a construction contractor
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction management preferred
  • Valid driver’s license
  • First Aid and CPR certification
  • Competent Person training required
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to work on-site in active construction environments and meet physical job demands

Lead Field Engineer Preferred Background & Skills

  • Experience supervising project management staff and mentoring junior engineers
  • Familiarity with OSHA safety requirements and enforcing safety policies

Lead Field Engineer Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Serve as on-site representative, actively engaging with project stakeholders and ensuring effective communication
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee all field engineering and project execution activities
  • Lead job setup, including document preparation (schedules, submittals, purchase orders)
  • Enforce safety policies, document meetings, and coordinate with OSHA as needed
  • Manage logistics, staging, and coordination of materials, subcontractors, and site activities
  • Support project closeout, including walkthroughs, punch lists, and preparation of as-built documents
  • Foster team growth through mentorship, training, and participation in hiring and performance evaluation
