Paralegal / Legal Assistant

 

Our firm is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Paralegal / Legal Assistant to join our medical malpractice team. This role combines substantive case management, trial preparation, and legal research with administrative support that ensures smooth day-to-day operations. The ideal candidate is proactive, resourceful, and thrives in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Paralegal Functions

·        Draft pleadings, discovery requests/responses, pretrial/settlement memos

·        Summarize depositions, medical records, expert reports

·        Assist with trial prep: exhibits, voir dire, verdict sheets, jury instructions

·        Track discovery and record requests; maintain insurance/medical/expert charts

·        Draft settlement petitions, affidavits, compliance documents

·        Schedule and coordinate experts; prepare trial communications

·        Conduct legal research (Westlaw preferred)

 

Legal Assistant / Administrative Functions

·        File pleadings (e-filing/in-person); maintain filing system

·        Manage attorney calendars, deadlines, and CLE requirements

·        Answer phones, draft correspondence, handle travel and expenses

·        Create and maintain case files, status sheets, discovery trackers

·        Send/follow up on medical records and expert reports

·        Provide overflow support to attorneys and staff

 

Qualifications:

·        5+ years paralegal/legal assistant experience (MUST include 4+ years medical malpractice)

·        Strong drafting, organizational, and multitasking skills

·        Familiar with litigation process, discovery, and trial preparation

·        Proficient in Microsoft Office; Westlaw/e-filing a plus

·        Excellent written/verbal communication

·        Paralegal certification or Notary preferred, not required
