Kitchen Manager – Des Moines, IA

Join an established hospitality group operating a vibrant, high-volume restaurant located inside the Des Moines Airport. This is an opportunity to lead a talented back-of-house team, support a scratch kitchen, and help shape the guest experience as the group expands into a second terminal. Kitchen Manager Requirements & Qualifications

  • 6–8 years of management experience in casual dining, with proven success in high-volume settings
  • Experience leading BOH teams; hands-on across all kitchen operations, including line management
  • Solid knowledge of labor laws, health codes, safe food handling, and sanitation procedures
  • Ability to pass a TSA-level background check and maintain airport security badge
  • At least 18 years old with a high school diploma
  • Able to stand and walk for up to 10 hours; ability to reach, bend, and maintain a neat appearance
  • Strong communication and team-building skills

Kitchen Manager Preferred Background & Skills

  • Experience working in multiple cities and/or recently returned to Des Moines
  • Familiarity with both BOH and FOH operations
  • Experience managing in environments with shared kitchens or multi-unit locations

Kitchen Manager Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Lead, train, and motivate kitchen staff to deliver high-quality, scratch-made dishes
  • Oversee all aspects of back-of-house operations, ensuring food safety, sanitation, and adherence to company recipes and standards
  • Manage inventory and ordering to achieve targeted food and labor costs
  • Utilize training tools and on-shift coaching to foster growth and performance in your team
  • Collaborate with other managers to support kitchen operations across multiple airport locations
  • Act as a role model for professionalism, innovation, and effective communication
