Trailer Mechanic Requirements & Qualifications
- Minimum 1+ year of direct, hands-on commercial trailer repair experience
- Experience must include trailer-specific systems—no automotive-only or engine-focused backgrounds
- Proven ability to repair brakes, air systems, electrical, suspension, landing gear, and structural components
- Skill in diagnosing trailer-specific mechanical and electrical issues
- Minor welding and fabrication experience preferred
- DOT certification or willingness to obtain
- Valid driver’s license required
- Must provide personal hand tools based on a supplied tool list
Trailer Mechanic Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Perform inspections, repairs, and preventative maintenance on commercial trailers
- Troubleshoot and repair brake systems, air lines, suspension, and electrical components
- Ensure all trailers meet DOT and internal safety standards
- Work collaboratively with a team to complete projects efficiently
- Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized shop environment
