Trailer Mechanic Requirements & Qualifications

Minimum 1+ year of direct, hands-on commercial trailer repair experience
Experience must include trailer-specific systems—no automotive-only or engine-focused backgrounds
Proven ability to repair brakes, air systems, electrical, suspension, landing gear, and structural components
Skill in diagnosing trailer-specific mechanical and electrical issues
Minor welding and fabrication experience preferred
DOT certification or willingness to obtain
Valid driver’s license required
Must provide personal hand tools based on a supplied tool list

Trailer Mechanic Day-to-Day Responsibilities

Perform inspections, repairs, and preventative maintenance on commercial trailers
Troubleshoot and repair brake systems, air lines, suspension, and electrical components
Ensure all trailers meet DOT and internal safety standards
Work collaboratively with a team to complete projects efficiently
Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized shop environment
