Executive Chef Requirements & Qualifications

Minimum 5+ years of experience in a senior kitchen leadership role
Proven ability to lead, manage, and retain a kitchen team
Strong background in classic American cuisine and high-volume execution
Working knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and kitchen compliance standards

Executive Chef Must Haves

Ability to personally cook and execute simple, well-prepared food consistently
Hands-on leadership style with a calm, steady presence in the kitchen
Strong control of ordering, inventory, and food cost management
Clear communication skills with both BOH and FOH leadership

Executive Chef Preferred Background & Skills

Experience in casual or polished-casual full-service restaurants
History of maintaining stable teams and low turnover
Comfort working within an established menu and concept
Financial awareness, including labor, waste reduction, and portion control
