Assistant Public Defender Qualifications:

Licensed to practice law in New York State
Experience in criminal defense or public interest law is preferred
Strong communication, litigation, and advocacy skills
Interest in working in a rural community and making a real impact

Assistant Public Defender Key Responsibilities:

Represent clients in criminal court proceedings
Prepare legal defenses, conduct case research, and argue motions
Maintain case files and documentation in accordance with legal and ethical standards
Collaborate with the Chief Public Defender and county agencies
