🏭 Plant Manager

Chemical Manufacturing | Batch / Tolling Environment

Location: Chattanooga, TN area (On-site)

A growing, private-equity–backed chemical manufacturer is seeking a hands-on Plant Manager to lead day-to-day operations at a recently acquired batch chemical manufacturing facility. This site is in a growth and transformation phase, making this a high-impact role for a leader who thrives in fast-moving, execution-driven environments.

The Opportunity

This is not a “maintain the status quo” role. The Plant Manager will be responsible for driving culture, establishing accountability, and leading disciplined growth. The facility operates 24/7 with four shifts, employs ~40 people, and handles moderately high-hazard chemical materials in a batch/tolling operation.

You will own safety, production, maintenance, quality, and people leadership, while working closely with on-site warehouse and lab teams (dotted-line day-to-day collaboration). There is meaningful opportunity to shape the organization, improve systems, and build long-term operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own safety, PSM, production, maintenance, quality, and reliability
  • Lead ~30–35 site employees (operators, maintenance, pack-out/material handling)
  • Drive a culture of action, accountability, and results
  • Strengthen and formalize Process Safety Management (PSM) elements
  • Balance customer demands with safe, compliant operations
  • Partner with Regulatory, EHS, Engineering, Lab, and Warehouse leadership
  • Support aggressive growth while maintaining operational discipline
  • Evaluate and optimize site organization, reporting lines, and workflows

What We’re Looking For

  • Manufacturing leadership experience required (chemical manufacturing strongly preferred)
  • Experience in batch manufacturing environments
  • Working knowledge of PSM requirements and high-hazard operations
  • Comfortable being on the plant floor, leading from the front
  • Ability to move fast, make decisions, and wear multiple hats
  • Strong people leadership and operational judgment
  • Non-union experience preferred (site is non-union)

A chemical engineering degree is not required, but chemical manufacturing experience is a strong differentiator.

Why This Role

  • High visibility and real authority
  • Private equity–backed growth environment
  • Minimal bureaucracy — decisions move quickly
  • Opportunity to build and lead culture, not inherit it
