Distribution Project Manager
Location: Morristown, NJ or Reading, PA
A growing utility-focused infrastructure consulting firm is seeking an experienced Distribution Project Manager to support a long-term capital improvement program for a major electric utility. This role will focus on managing electrical distribution construction projects across New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania.
This organization partners with major utilities to help plan and deliver critical infrastructure upgrades that keep the electrical grid reliable and modern. The firm specializes in project and program management services, supporting projects from planning and engineering coordination through construction and project closeout.
This is a long-term program that has already been active for several years and is expected to continue for 5–10 more years, providing stability and growth opportunities for project management professionals.
Compensation
$110,000 – $160,000 annually (depending on experience)

What You’ll Do
- Manage 10–20 electrical distribution projects simultaneously from initiation through completion
- Review project scope and develop project execution plans with engineering and client stakeholders
- Coordinate engineering design, procurement, and construction activities
- Manage contractor bid processes and develop RFP packages
- Lead pre-construction meetings and ongoing project progress meetings
- Monitor project schedules and coordinate work sequencing with engineering and field teams
- Track project budgets, financial forecasts, and accruals
- Coordinate permitting approvals and regulatory documentation
- Maintain strong communication with engineering teams, contractors, and utility stakeholders
- Support project closeout and system energization activities
Projects may include:
- Distribution line upgrades and circuit rebuilds
- Pole replacements and equipment upgrades
- Substation equipment modernization
- Telecommunications equipment upgrades
- New customer and generator interconnections
Typical project budgets range from $50,000 to $5 million, with project managers responsible for portfolios averaging $10 million annually.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
- 5+ years of project management experience supporting electrical distribution or substation projects
- Experience managing project budgets and schedules
- Experience coordinating engineering teams, contractors, and utility stakeholders
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites within a regional service area
Preferred Experience
- Utility client experience
- Primavera P6 or similar project scheduling software
- Experience managing contractor bid processes and construction contracts
- PMP certification
Work Environment
This role operates in a hybrid field/office environment, with approximately:
- 80% office/project coordination
- 20% field presence supporting construction activities
Project sites are typically within a 1–3 hour radius of the office location.
