Purchasing Manager Requirements & Qualifications
- Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in purchasing metals and strategic sourcing.
- 5+ years of experience working with MS Excel or equivalent tools.
- Knowledge of nonferrous metals and aluminum.
- Strong understanding of raw material analysis and tracking systems.
- Expertise in corporate purchasing practices and negotiation strategies.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Purchasing Manager Preferred Background & Skills
- MBA or advanced degree.
- Experience building supplier relationships domestically and internationally.
- Familiarity with manufacturing or industrial environments.
Purchasing Manager Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Source and purchase scrap metal materials, negotiating specifications and payment terms.
- Protect and expand profit margins while meeting volume and margin goals.
- Consult with domestic and international customers and internal teams on scrap grading and quality.
- Travel to client sites to identify opportunities and strengthen business relationships.
- Analyze local and international raw material markets for trends and supply opportunities.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, supply chain, and other internal teams to ensure material availability and procurement efficiency.
- Monitor procurement processes to ensure compliance with internal controls and contract approval workflows.
- Develop budgets, rolling forecasts, and target savings.
- Maintain and enhance productive supplier relationships while continually identifying new sourcing partners.
