Payroll Accountant

We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Accountant to support payroll processing and payroll accounting services for multiple client accounts within a public accounting/CPA firm environment. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate, timely payroll processing while maintaining strong client relationships and supporting payroll tax compliance activities. 

Payroll Accountant Responsibilities

• Process payroll for multiple client companies across various industries and states.
• Maintain accurate payroll records and supporting documentation for each client engagement.
• Prepare and record payroll journal entries and assist clients with payroll-related reconciliations.
• Reconcile payroll registers to general ledger and financial statements.
• Support preparation and filing of payroll taxes (federal, state, and local), with training and oversight provided as needed.
• Assist with quarterly and year-end payroll reporting, including W-2s, 941s, and state filings.

Payroll Accountant Requirements

• 3+ years of payroll, bookkeeping, or public accounting experience preferred.
• Solid understanding of bookkeeping fundamentals, debits/credits, and reconciliations.
• Experience with payroll platforms (ADP, Paychex, Gusto, or similar) preferred. TR Accounting CS is highly desirable.
• High level of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail.
• Strong client communication and service mindset.
• Willingness to learn payroll tax filings, multi-state compliance, and regulatory requirements.
