Senior Tax Accountant – New York, NY

A boutique tax firm recognized for its expertise in corporate, partnership, trust, and estate work is seeking a skilled professional to lead its corporate tax practice. This is an opportunity to play a key role in a close-knit team, taking on complex tax projects and interacting directly with clients in a collaborative environment.

Head of Corporate Tax Benefits & Compensation

  • Salary centered on $120K, with potential for higher pay for CPA credentials
  • Opportunity for a hybrid schedule after an initial onboarding period (in-office during onboarding; 6 days in office only during tax season)
  • Collaborative, growth-oriented environment with direct client interaction

Senior Tax Accountant Requirements & Qualifications

  • Experience preparing federal and state tax returns for S corporations, partnerships, trusts, and estates
  • Strong understanding of payroll and sales tax filing, reconciliation, and reporting
  • Demonstrated ability to review, reconcile, and correct disorganized or incomplete financial records
  • Familiarity with financial software, including QuickBooks Desktop, QuickBooks Online, and other client systems
  • Comfortable analyzing K-1s from multi-level entities and handling state/local allocations
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities

Head of Corporate Tax Preferred Background & Skills

  • CPA license is valued, but not required
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
  • General financial analysis background

Head of Corporate Tax Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review complex tax returns for S corps, partnerships, trusts, and estates
  • Directly handle payroll and sales tax filings, ensuring reconciliation and accuracy
  • Analyze and clarify incomplete or disorganized records using various accounting platforms
  • Interpret and process K-1s, allocating tax appropriately across states and entities
  • Advise clients on special transactions, elections, sales, and distributions
  • Work collaboratively with clients and team members to gather information, resolve discrepancies, and improve workflows
