Field Service Engineer Requirements & Qualifications

  • 3+ years of technical school or equivalent work experience in mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical systems maintenance and repair
  • Demonstrated ability with troubleshooting and servicing industrial automation equipment
  • Proficient in reading technical manuals and blueprints
  • Strong organizational skills for timely reporting and documentation
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication
  • Able to travel frequently (by car and air); must live near a major airport
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently

Field Service Engineer Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Review installation requirements with customers before shipping new equipment
  • Oversee the assembly and on-site installation of machines at customer locations
  • Inspect, adjust, and start up newly installed machinery, ensuring compliance with specifications
  • Demonstrate safe operation and maintenance procedures to customers
  • Provide warranty and non-warranty maintenance, repair, and training services
  • Maintain close relationships with assigned customers and local distributors, responding to service needs and technical inquiries
  • Accurately complete service, inspection, time, and expense reports within required timelines
  • Offer phone and email-based remote technical support when not traveling
