Sous Chef

Sous Chef Requirements & Qualifications

  • Degree in Culinary Arts or equivalent experience
  • Minimum five years of hands-on experience in polished casual dining
  • Two years of management experience in upscale dining settings
  • ServSafe Certification or equivalent
  • Choke Save Certified or equivalent
  • Allergen Awareness Training completed or equivalent
  • Ability to lift to 25 pounds and perform frequent bending, stooping, or squatting
  • Availability to work all shifts, including weekends and holidays

Sous Chef Preferred Background & Skills

  • Experience training new culinary team members
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Familiarity with culinary food production software

Sous Chef Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Support the Chef in planning, preparing, and presenting menu items for daily meals and special events
  • Supervise and motivate kitchen staff when the Chef is present or absent
  • Oversee kitchen cleanliness and ensure proper organization and storage of food products
  • Collaborate with the Chef and Production Manager to review menus and check necessary supplies
  • Maintain accurate food tracking worksheets and labeling systems
  • Manage daily and weekly cleaning tasks, ensuring a safe and hygienic environment
  • Produce, plate, and present menu items with a focus on quality and portion control
  • Prepare baked goods and special event items as needed
  • Train and onboard new kitchen staff in a variety of roles
  • Suggest effective use of leftover food to minimize waste
