Senior Legal Counsel Requirements & Qualifications

• 10+ years of corporate transactional commercial real estate legal experience
• Significant experience in retail and shopping center real estate transactions
• Demonstrated expertise across the full real estate lifecycle: acquisitions, development, leasing, and dispositions
• Direct experience with big-box retailers, anchor tenants, and institutional commercial real estate owners, developers, REITs, or law firms
• Strong background in drafting and negotiating complex agreements, including reciprocal easement agreements (REAs), operating agreements, leases, and development/disposition documents
• Exceptional negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills
• Ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal counsel to internal stakeholders

Senior Legal Counsel Preferred Background & Skills

• Familiarity with large-scale redevelopment and mixed-use projects
• Experience advising on legal risk for national portfolios or transformation projects
• Previous mentorship or leadership of junior attorneys and legal staff

Senior Legal Counsel Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Lead and negotiate complex commercial real estate transactions—including acquisitions, development, redevelopment, leasing, and dispositions
• Draft, review, and advise on sophisticated shopping center and retail leases, REAs, and development agreements
• Support major retail and mixed-use redevelopment projects from inception through completion
• Advise business and development leaders on legal and commercial risks, finding practical solutions for complex issues
• Collaborate with internal legal and business teams, outside counsel, tenants, and developers on major deals
• Mentor and provide guidance to less experienced attorneys and paralegals
