A full-service business and litigation law firm is seeking an experienced Litigation Legal Assistant to support its Medical Malpractice in Chicago. This hybrid role offers a collaborative environment, strong firm culture, and exposure to sophisticated employment matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide general office support for healthcare law attorneys, more specifically, maintain and organize files, photocopy, maintain calendars, prepare expense reports, submit invoices for payment, schedule depositions, conferences and meetings, and coordinate travel arrangements.
- Open new matters, including running conflict checks and preparing engagement letters.
- Calculate, calendar and track court and other filing deadlines.
- Court docket search including reviewing judges' standing orders, court requirements, and downloading of case files.
- Document and file organization (paper and electronic filing systems), document creation, conversion and formatting.
- Format, proofread, and finalize detailed correspondence, pleadings, and other legal documents, including for e-filings.
- Filing documents in state and federal courts; communicate with court staff, as necessary; keep current with changes in court rules and filing procedures.
- Must have knowledge of procedures and rules for filing documents in state and federal courts, and experience filing documents in both courts.
- Knowledge of the various stages of a litigated case
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Competencies, Education and Experience
- 5+ years of experience as a healthcare law legal assistant, preferred
- High level of proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and document management systems.
- Experience with iManage 10, InTapp and Emburse a plus.
- Outstanding organizational, interpersonal, and administrative skills.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to multi-task.
- Must be self-motivated, proactive, and able to meet deadlines under pressure.
- Must have the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team with other legal assistants, paralegals and attorneys, as well as to work independently.
- Must provide excellent internal and external client service.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely with a solution oriented approach.
- High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
