Associate Veterinarian Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive physical examinations and develop appropriate diagnostic and treatment plans
  • Diagnose and treat a wide variety of medical conditions using evidence-based veterinary medicine
  • Perform routine and advanced surgical procedures within your level of expertise
  • Provide urgent and emergency care, including patient stabilization and referral when appropriate
  • Prescribe medications and interpret laboratory and diagnostic imaging results
  • Communicate medical recommendations, treatment options, and follow-up care clearly and compassionately with clients
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and timely medical records using SOAP documentation
  • Collaborate with the Medical Director on medical protocols and patient care decisions
  • Mentor and support veterinary technicians and assistants while fostering a collaborative team environment
  • Promote exceptional client service and build long-term relationships through education, empathy, and follow-up care
  • Assist in maintaining efficient hospital workflow while upholding the highest standards of patient care, safety, and professionalism

Associate Veterinarian Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD) degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school
  • 2+ years of experience in a private or corporate practice
  • Active California veterinary license in good standing or ability to obtain licensure before employment
  • Active DEA registration or ability to obtain one
  • Strong diagnostic, surgical, and medical case management skills
  • Commitment to practicing high-quality medicine with compassion and integrity
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with clients and team members
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with colleagues
  • Strong organizational, critical thinking, and time management skills
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities with the ability to mentor and support technical staff
  • Commitment to maintaining accurate medical records and complying with all applicable regulations and hospital policies
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced veterinary hospital environment while delivering exceptional patient and client care
