About the Opportunity

A well-established, award-winning MEP engineering consulting firm is seeking an experienced engineering professional to join its Milwaukee team in a Project Manager role.

This is an excellent opportunity for an established MEP Project Manager or an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer, Senior Electrical Engineer, Engineering Team Lead, Discipline Lead, or Engineering Manager who has demonstrated strong technical leadership and is ready to advance into broader project management responsibilities.

A formal Project Manager title is not required. The company is open to experienced engineers with a proven track record of leading teams, coordinating engineering design, and delivering quality technical work, even if they have not previously held full responsibility for project budgets, contracts, and client relationships.

The organization specializes in high-performance, energy-efficient building systems, providing multidisciplinary engineering services across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, architectural lighting, sustainability, and commissioning.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical knowledge, demonstrated leadership, excellent communication skills, and the ability to develop into a confident, client-facing Project Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary engineering and design projects from initiation through successful completion.
  • Direct and support engineering teams, designers, technical specialists, and outside consultants.
  • Coordinate mechanical, electrical, plumbing, architectural, structural, civil, and other applicable design disciplines.
  • Establish project priorities, coordinate technical deliverables, and monitor project progress.
  • Manage multiple concurrent engineering projects, including scope, schedules, budgets, quality, and overall delivery.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients and develop strong, long-term professional relationships.
  • Participate in developing project scopes, task lists, budgets, fees, schedules, and staffing plans.
  • Support proposal preparation, client presentations, and contractual agreements.
  • Understand project contracts and ensure work is delivered according to client requirements.
  • Assign project responsibilities and provide direction, guidance, and mentoring to team members.
  • Coordinate responsibilities and deliverables with outside consultants and subconsultants.
  • Monitor project performance, identify potential issues, and implement corrective actions.
  • Identify changes in project scope and coordinate appropriate client approvals.
  • Support quality assurance, quality control, and company engineering design standards.
  • Review project invoices and support project financial performance and profitability.
  • Promote effective communication and collaboration across engineering disciplines and departments.
  • Help develop junior engineers and designers while supporting a positive, collaborative team environment.
  • Take increasing ownership of project management responsibilities based on experience and demonstrated capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Approximately 8+ years of relevant experience in engineering design, consulting engineering, architectural engineering, building systems, or related technical disciplines preferred.
  • Strong background in MEP engineering, architectural engineering, or multidisciplinary engineering design.
  • Demonstrated experience leading engineers, designers, technical teams, or multidisciplinary engineering activities.
  • Direct experience with MEP engineering design or meaningful coordination of MEP building systems.
  • Strong understanding of engineering design processes, technical documentation, and multidisciplinary coordination.
  • Ability to organize technical work, coordinate deliverables, manage priorities, and guide team members.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interact professionally with clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, decision-making, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative, and take accountability for assigned responsibilities.
  • Interest in advancing into broader project management, client relationship, and business responsibilities.
  • Experience within an MEP consulting engineering, architectural engineering, building systems, or A/E consulting firm strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Engineering/Management, or a related technical discipline preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required.
  • Experience with Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, or other applicable engineering/design software is beneficial.

Previous Project Manager experience is not mandatory. Candidates with proven engineering team leadership will be considered even if they have not independently managed every aspect of project scope, budgets, contracts, schedules, or client relationships.

MEP Engineering & Technical Background

Candidates with Mechanical or Electrical Engineering backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
