Deputy Program Director – Technical Support & Operations

A mission-driven organization is seeking an experienced Deputy Program Director to oversee technical support, business operations, and contract performance within a large-scale federal government environment. This leadership position combines program management, operational oversight, financial accountability, and cross-functional team leadership to ensure effective service delivery and successful contract execution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee program operations, including planning, budgeting, staffing, and performance
  • Manage contract deliverables, operational efficiency, compliance, and customer satisfaction
  • Lead business operations, quality control, document management, purchasing, and contracting functions
  • Oversee financial reporting, invoicing, budgets, cost controls, and work management systems
  • Establish performance metrics and monitor productivity, service quality, and operational effectiveness
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams and coordinate priorities across operational departments
  • Evaluate program performance and implement process improvements to increase efficiency
  • Collaborate with government customers, contract stakeholders, and senior leadership
  • Support strategic planning and assume Program Manager responsibilities as needed

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
  • 10+ years of relevant professional experience
  • Demonstrated experience in program management, operational leadership, and technical oversight
  • Experience managing budgets, financial performance, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong understanding of program management methodologies, contract performance, and operational compliance
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and analytical skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities across complex operational environments
  • Ability to meet contract-specific security clearance and background check requirements

Preferred: Master's degree in an engineering discipline, Professional Engineer (PE) license, and experience overseeing complex government contracts or large-scale technical operations.

Compensation: $150K base

This is a senior-level operational leadership position requiring an engineering foundation and substantial program management experience. Candidates with experience limited to individual engineering projects or hands-on technical execution, without broader operational oversight, may not align with the role.
