Shipyard Field Engineer

North Kingstown, RI

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Naval Architecture, or equivalent shipyard field experience
  • 7+ years supporting shipbuilding, vessel repair, or major marine modification projects
  • 5+ years supporting structural fabrication, outfitting, construction, or craft management
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD; ShipConstructor or similar marine software preferred
  • Strong understanding of vessel structural systems, outfitting, fabrication, and installation practices
  • Ability to interpret ABS and U.S. Coast Guard regulations
  • Ability to read structural, arrangement, production, and fabrication drawings

Must Haves

  • Develop and improve structural and outfitting build strategies to support production schedules
  • Resolve field engineering issues between design and construction teams
  • Maintain accurate as-built drawings, redlines, and field documentation
  • Coordinate installation activities across structural, piping, electrical, HVAC, machinery, and subcontractor teams
  • Review constructability, equipment access, clearances, and installation sequencing
  • Support inspections, commissioning, turnover, and quality documentation
  • Recommend process improvements that reduce rework and improve production efficiency

Preferred Background & Skills

  • ShipConstructor or other marine CAD software experience
  • Experience with NC nesting programs and template development
  • New-build shipyard experience
  • Government or commercial vessel construction experience
  • Strong cross-functional communication and problem-solving skills
  • Experience supporting material take-offs and procurement activities
