Chemist (bi-lingual)

A leading manufacturer in the coatings industry is seeking a chemist to join their team in Lansing. This role offers a unique opportunity to work directly with customers, contribute to product development, and support innovative technical solutions within a collaborative environment.

Competitive salary ($57,428.80 to $87,464.00 annually), negotiable based on experience

Chemist Requirements & Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a related scientific field
Minimum 2 years of relevant industry experience
Willingness to travel as needed for customer support
Ability to work flexible hours and occasional overtime
Capable of safely using PPE and working with isocyanates (must be clean shaven for respirator use)
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including professional presentation of technical information

Chemist Preferred Background & Skills

Manufacturing industry experience
Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Understanding of business processes such as SAP or AS/400 systems

Chemist Day-to-Day Responsibilities

Perform laboratory work including paint and panel preparation, testing, and record-keeping as assigned
Analyze formulas, investigate technical issues, and support problem-solving with supervisor guidance
Operate hand-spray and automated application equipment to produce and evaluate test panels
Travel with technical teams to support customer trials and implement solutions
Communicate technical data, project results, and reports to internal and external stakeholders
Accurately maintain lab notebooks, records, and project documentation
Adapt workflow and prioritize tasks to meet customer needs and business timelines
