The Field Safety Specialist is a field-based role responsible for supporting and reinforcing our site safety program across active structural steel erection projects. This position focuses on maintaining safe job sites through field inspections, direct engagement with crews, and consistent reinforcement of safety standards and OSHA compliance.
This role is highly visible in the field and works closely with Superintendents, Foremen, Project Managers, and subcontractors to identify hazards, support safe work practices, and help prevent incidents before they occur.
The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience in high-risk construction environments and is confident working in active job sites with multiple trades.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular job site safety walks, inspections, and audits across active steel erection projects
- Identify unsafe conditions and behaviors and ensure timely corrective action
- Support enforcement of safety standards and OSHA regulations
- Maintain a strong visible presence on job sites to reinforce safe work practices
- Support implementation of controls through Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and pre-task planning
- Assist field teams in developing practical solutions to reduce risk exposure
- Assist in incident, near-miss, and unsafe condition investigations, including gathering field information, documentation, and witness input
- Support root cause analysis and corrective action tracking
- Help identify trends and recurring hazards across projects
- Work closely with the Director of Safety & Risk and field leadership to ensure alignment on safety expectations
- Communicate hazards and recommendations clearly and professionally across all levels
- Coordinate with subcontractors to ensure compliance with safety requirements
- Promote a strong, proactive safety culture in the field
Experience
- 3+ years of construction safety or field experience
- Strong preference for experience in structural steel or high-risk construction environments
- Comfortable working on active, fast-paced job sites with multiple trades
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction (or ability to obtain)
- First Aid / CPR / AED
- Ability and desire to travel in and out of state up to 70%
