An industry-leading scrap metal recycler is looking to add a hands-on Heavy Equipment Mechanic to keep a busy fleet and yard equipment mission-ready!
Your Responsibilities:
- Perform diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on diesel engines, trucks, trailers, loaders, cranes, forklifts, and other heavy equipment.
- Respond to and troubleshoot equipment breakdowns at the Brooklyn yard and other local facilities.
- Inspect and maintain hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and brake systems.
- Ensure all equipment meets safety, DOT, and environmental compliance standards.
- Keep detailed maintenance records and communicate repair needs with management.
- Perform welding, fabrication, and minor bodywork repairs as needed.
- Support the operations team by minimizing equipment downtime and ensuring reliable performance.
Your Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Mechanic, or Fleet Technician.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and heavy equipment repair.
- Ability to travel between locations
- Welding/fabrication skills, a plus.
- CDL license preferred but not required.
- Must be reliable, safety-focused, and able to work independently in the field.
