Supplier Quality Engineer Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, or a related field required
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in quality within a manufacturing environment
  • Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States

Supplier Quality Engineer Preferred Background & Skills

  • 3–10 years of quality experience in a manufacturing setting, ideally in transportation or automotive
  • Familiarity with vehicle functions, component parts, and manufacturing processes
  • Experience with metrology equipment (CMM preferred)
  • Working knowledge of quality system methodologies (8D, 5-Why, Lean, Pareto, 6-Sigma, PFMEA, PPAP, ISO, Control Plan)

Supplier Quality Engineer Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Manage supplier development and performance, including audits, metrics, and corrective action plans
  • Approve and verify PPAP submissions for new and revised parts, supporting pilot builds and production launches
  • Lead root cause analysis and problem-solving activities for quality concerns with suppliers
  • Prepare and present quality reports, supplier reviews, and risk mitigation plans
  • Collaborate with technical and engineering teams to communicate specifications and drive issue resolution
  • Support process improvement initiatives and maintain compliance with ISO and other quality standards
