The Vice President of Development role at a non-profit Health System is an exciting opportunity to help build America’s first health system to focus exclusively on primary care for those most in need. We seek a bold, entrepreneurial-minded, and mission-driven VP to spearhead a comprehensive fundraising strategy leading to ever-increasing growth and impact.
A health system that is nationally recognized for its commitment to expanding access, advancing innovation, and strengthening the health care workforce across the United States. As the first health system dedicated to primary care for the underserved, its VP of Development occupies a unique niche in the crowded arena of health care philanthropy.
We currently support four million lives in safety net settings.
· National Institute for Medical Assistant Advancement (NIMAA) – Training the next generation of medical assistants through a groundbreaking, affordable education model. We are licensed in 28 states.
· Consortium for Advanced Practice Providers – Elevating standards by accrediting postgraduate residency and fellowship programs for nurse practitioners and physician associates. We are nationally certified to accredit programs in all 50 states.
The successful candidate will be both a strategist and a storyteller, with a deft ability to articulate what is special about the MWHS with energy and passion. They will provide the leadership, day-to-day management, vision, and inspiration necessary to elevate an existing development program, with a mindset geared toward success. Traditional tactics including donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual, corporate, and foundation donors and prospects will be expected, along with the creativity and innovation for which the MWHS is known.
Ideally, this candidate will reside in Fairfield County, CT, Westchester County, NY, or New York City and will have office space in the Moses/Weitman-CHC facility on Fifth St. in Stamford, CT.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Build and strengthen partnerships with clinical and administrative leaders to identify and advance high-impact funding opportunities.
· Lead system-wide development initiatives in collaboration with Finance, Grants, and Communications.
· Provide strategic oversight of major and high-profile donor relationships — from cultivation through stewardship.
· Develop a personal rapport with high-net-worth individuals and sources of private philanthropic influence.
· Identify and implement creative ways to reach new prospects and donors.
· Establish performance metrics, track results, and deliver data-driven insights to strengthen fundraising effectiveness.
· Develop and manage the Development budget to maximize reach and return.
· Oversee donor data, reporting, gift acknowledgements, and financial accountability.
· Recruit and lead a high-performing Development team across major gifts, corporate/foundation relations, and prospect research.
QUALIFICATIONS
· A minimum of 10 years of professional fundraising/development experience, with a clear record of achievement in a complex, mission-driven organization; 5+ years in a management capacity.
· Experience in corporate solicitations, private foundation proposal writing, and individual major donor initiatives.
· Broad experience working for a national level organization; nonprofit healthcare experience highly desired.
· Flexible, adaptive, and innovative management style; a leader who can navigate the personal and programmatic complexities of a large organization to positively impact both strategic and tactical fundraising initiatives.
· Exceptional management skills with a history of success building and motivating a high performing team.
· High degree of comfort communicating information to a wide range of audiences, from Major Donors to the general public.
· Superior interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with various internal and external constituencies, successfully navigating and cultivating relationships to build support for new initiatives.
