Sous Chef – Chicago, IL

Sous Chef Requirements & Qualifications

  • Fine-dining culinary experience at Michelin, James Beard-level, or similar high-caliber establishment
  • Previous leadership experience as Sous Chef, Chef de Partie, or Lead Line Cook in luxury catering, private events, or renowned restaurants
  • In-depth knowledge of scratch cooking and professional brigrade kitchen operations
  • Polished, reliable, and comfortable working directly with VIP clients in private residences and exclusive venues
  • Proven ability to lead and organize small- to medium-sized teams (2–10 staff) with poise and clear communication
  • Willingness to participate in a two-day stage and tasting as part of the interview process
  • Candidates must have a vehicle to travel to farmers' markets, etc.

Sous Chef Preferred Background & Skills

  • Experience with menu planning and event logistics for multi-course, fine-dining events
  • Highly organized and self-directed with a strong systems approach
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; comfortable asking questions and seeking clarity

Sous Chef Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the executive chef to plan, prep, and execute private dining events at the highest standard
  • Lead, motivate, and supervise the culinary team during each event, ensuring consistency and quality
  • Serve as the company’s professional, personable point of contact when on-site with clients and guests
  • Prepare detailed production lists; manage ordering, receiving, and inventory as assigned
  • Champion food safety, sanitation, and kitchen cleanliness throughout events
  • Foster a respectful, inclusive, high-performing team culture
