Join our team as the Tooling Engineer – Injection Molding and take full ownership of injection mold tooling from concept through production readiness. Reporting directly to plant engineering leadership, you will define tooling packages, drive mold flow analysis, and provide technical guidance that directly impacts production quality, cycle time, and equipment effectiveness.
This role is ideal for a hands-on injection molding professional who has experience across a broad range of press sizes and tooling complexity, and who wants to operate as a technical leader on a growing manufacturing team, as well as grow their scope into automation, process development, and continuous improvement with a stable and expanding company.
Tooling Engineer – Injection Molding | What You Will Do
- Define and evaluate tooling packages for the request for quoting (RFQ) process on new parts and products
- Conduct mold flow analysis and provide design feedback to mechanical engineers to ensure parts meet production requirements
- Oversee specification, quotation, and procurement of new, modified, and repaired injection mold tooling
- Participate in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) reviews and identify tooling-related inefficiencies in production processes
- Develop standard work and SOPs for injection molding processes, tool setup, use, and maintenance; support training of functional area leaders
- Drive continuous improvement in OEE by leading and participating in tiered plant management meetings
- Work directly with production teams to diagnose and resolve tooling and process issues in real time
- Evaluate cost-saving opportunities through tooling redesign, standardization, and new technology adoption
Tooling Engineer – Injection Molding | What You Bring
- B.S. degree in Plastics, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering with strong plastics materials knowledge
- 4 to 7 years of injection molding operations experience, including at least 1 to 3 years of hands-on work with presses from 85 to 2500 tons
- Demonstrated knowledge of injection mold tool design: hot runners, core pulls, venting, gates and runners, shrinkage factors, draft angles, and heat transfer
- Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software; MasterCam or equivalent CAM experience
- Hands-on experience with Teach Pendant programming and robot setup for injection molding applications
- Machine tool experience with CNC and manual mills, lathes, EDM, grinders, and welding
- Design of Experiments (DOE) and SolidWorks Professional Certifications required for senior-level designation
- Self-directed work style with the ability to lead process development and troubleshoot production issues independently
